It has been a number of years since Dolph Lundgren set foot on Eternia, the fictional planet where his 1987 movie Masters of the Universe is set, but he may get another chance to revisit that place in the remake.
Jon M. Chu, who is attached to direct for Sony, wants Lungren back for the movie. It won't be for the lead role, however, but a cameo.
"I don't know if Dolph Lundgren is around or what he's doing but, yeah, I think that could be some fun if we could find a way. I hope he still has the loin cloth and the long hair and everything," Chu said.
If asked, Lungren would probably jump at the chance since it's not like he can be picky at this point in his career.
One problem though. This movie may never get made.
To do the movie right will require a huge budget, which may not be something Sony is comfortable with given that the 1987 movie bombed.
Masters of the Universe was previously set up at Warner Bros. with John Woo attached to direct, but nothing became of it and the project eventually found a home at Sony. Maybe Warner saw the price tag and balked.
The latest draft of the script is written by Richard Wenk.
